Originally built in 1972 and remodelled in 2000, the Merian Am Rhein Hotel - part of the Best Western group - lies just off the quay where a 13th-century bishop commissioned the construction of the only bridge across the Rhine between Lake Constance and the sea. Ranging in sized from medium to large, the 63 guestrooms are well appointed with modern furnishings, glass-topped cocktail tables and well-lit desk space. They are clean and well maintained, as are the tiled en suite bathrooms. With its black lacquer and beech furnishings, the Café and Restaurant Spitz, on the ground floor of the property, serves both regional specialities and international cuisine.
